History

The group was originally conceived by Outreach and Service Committee at Resurrection Parish in Randolph, NJ. Interfaith Furnishings' first project was to help furnish the new James Street apartments in New Jersey, established by Homeless Solutions. The apartments were made available to qualified working poor to help people in Morris County who could not find affordable housing. Fifteen families moved in and Interfaith Furnishings provided their furniture, due to a furniture drive held by Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church.

Interfaith Furnishings has warehoused its operations at different, temporarily donated locations in Morris County, in the following chronological order:

  1. Dover, New Jersey
  2. Rockaway, New Jersey
  3. Randolph, New Jersey
  4. Dover, New Jersey
  5. Rockaway, New Jersey

Due to the size limitations of most of the apartments or homes of the clients, Interfaith Furnishings limits its donations to furniture of smaller sizes, such as sofas, love seats, chairs, end tables, coffee tables, dinette sets, bedroom sets with single, double or queen size beds, bookcases. The nonprofit does not accept appliances, sofa beds, or clothing.
